Buffalo River Spring Trip The Buffalo River is a national scenic river that meanders 135 miles through Arkansas' northwestern wilderness. The Buffalo and its scenic setting has not changed in 100 years. You will kayak past 200 - 500 foot bluffs, explore caves and hike into a remote box canyon to view a 200 foot waterfall.
Springtime (April-May) is the best time to kayak the river because over 100 plants, shrubs and flowering trees are in bloom. Temperatures will be pleasant - the mid-seventies. This wilderness setting is home to armadillos, roadrunners, wild turkeys, white tail deer, raccoons, opossums, bobcats, mink, black bear, beavers and elk. The forests are predominantly hardwoods with a sprinkling of conifers. The Buffalo is known for great smallmouth bass fishing. This trip is suited for people with beginner to intermediate kayak skills.
Aqua Guides will provide transportation, food, cooking equipment, stoves, menu, water purifier, tarps, tents, full length sleeping pads, kayaks, kayak instruction, PFD's, paddles and dry bags. We can provide individual tents for everyone as well as 2 person, 3 person or 4 person tents.
Our kayaks are user friendly, especially for the beginner kayaker whether he/she is an 8-20 year old or a 45-70 year old. The kayaks track well and are easy to get into and out of. They are also very stable on lakes as well as Class I - III rivers. Our clients like the fact that they can reach for a water bottle, food, jacket or camera without the fear of rolling the kayak. Married couples agree that our individual kayaks are more fun than a canoe.
You provide cash for food and drinks while traveling in the van, your sleeping bag, rain gear, clothes, shoes and personal items. You'll also need to supply a sense of humor and a willingness to help prepare meals and do camp chores.
